I prefer to live in a secular society. I have no problem with people practising their religion of choice, provided they do it within their homes and community and provided they don't put up cultural and religious barriers between themselves and the rest of society. So, after thinking about it  for a few days, I feel that the cinemas were right to ban the Lord's Prayer ad, because, benign though it may be, it would be a direct, non-secular avowal of religious belief in a public place where people have gathered for a completely different purpose. I suspect the makers of the Star Wars film may also have had a commercial motive for the ban, in the sense that some people might have decided not to go to see the film, particularly if they planned to take their children, because they didn't want to have to listen to a religious message before the film.
