This sounds more like the Church of England spokesperson (and a few others) “hanging around waiting to be offended”.
 
What the Digital Cinema Media spokesperson is reported to have actually said is that it has “a policy not to run advertising connected to personal beliefs, specifically those related to politics or religion. Our members have found that showing such advertisements carries the risk of upsetting, or offending, audiences.”  This was not referring only to the advert for the Lord’s prayer, but to all political and religious advertising.  The principle sounds reasonable enough to me, even if they could have expressed themselves better, and no doubt would have done so if they had realised that such a hoo-ha would be made out of it.

The Church of England’s spokesperson hardly comes out of this any better: - “In one way the decision of the cinemas is just plain silly but the fact that they have insisted upon it makes it rather chilling in terms of limiting free speech.”

“Rather chilling in terms of limiting free speech”?  Get a life! Nobody is stopping you saying the Lord’s pray if that’s your thing, as evidenced in churches up and down the country every Sunday.

“Religion is like a [banana]. It's fine to have one and it's fine to be proud of it, but please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around in my face... and PLEASE don't try to shove it down my child's throat.”
