Good article last week about how Turkey's renewal of hostilities against the Kurds is basically saving Isis from swift extinction. Erdogan has specifically forbidden the Kurds from kicking Isis out of a town near Kobani. I don't understand what he expects to get out of this - favourable treatment from the Saudis?. Also nice to hear Prince Charles reminding us that nearly six years of crop failures and famine in Syria prior to 2011 have made a massive contribution to the problem, and also could help to explain the refugee crisis - Even if Isis are beaten Syria may not be able to sustain it's old population. |
