Many parents also fail to impress on their children the importance of not cycling fast on the pavements. I know the roads are very dangerous for young children but parents  should instil in their children that they should never cycle on the pavement in crowded areas and if they are cycling on the pavement they should only cycle at a walking pace and keep to the part of the pavement that is nearest the road until they have passed their cycling proficiency test and are road safe.I now make sure I look both ways before stepping out of my gate as I have had a couple of near misses by children speeding on the pavements ( both times a parent was following behind on the pavement)
