I would hope that if more of us are more informed, then more of us can contribute more effectively to a more reasoned debate on issues. If that information is from many diverse strands, then, again, i would hope that this will facilitate a more balanced, unbiased debate on those issues. Now, it may take a little longer to arrive at a way forward, but, again, hopefully whilst we're all talking to each other and achieving a broader, more informed consensus, it may reduce the amount of time we spend committing acts of physical harm, damage and injury towards each other. Sorry if this comes across as patronizing. At the very least, engaging others who are less informed, via debate, gives us the opportunity to educate them, perhaps even enlighten them.... unless, of course, some of us see that as a bad thing. I hope that the six on the FOI committee do not see access to information obtained under the FOI Act, as one source of knowledge, counter-productive to a quest for us all to become more enlightened. |
