Andrew - I think Brendan has pretty much summarised what was said. I would add that this was not a vote it was an initial consultation. Survey letter were sent to households and not to individuals on the electoral register. At one point I argued quite vociferously as I recall that re-consulting smacked of the Irish "neverendum" when voters were repeatedly asked to approve the EU constitution until they came up with the "right answer". However I was persuaded that there would be some point to a re-consultation in Area 2 after the Elmwood Road Scheme (and the the other CPZ extensions) have been implemented. By this time residents will probably also be "benefitting" from construction worker parking as the massive developments on Lionel Road etc begin to get up and running. The implementation of the CPZ in Area 1 will take longer to progress through detailed planning and consultation. However it is possible that when it is implemented that some commuter parking may be displaced from Area 1 to Area 2. There was also some discussion of the need for match day controls further down the line - although I would concede that this is not an immediate problem. How far would you be prepared to walk from you parked car to see Brentford FC play in their new stadium? |
