This whole "shoot to kill" policy is a massive red herring, and an obvious trap that Corbyn very obligingly stepped into. There is no specific "shoot to kill" policy, however marksmen are trained to aim for the centre of the target, it being the largest surface area and given the considerable stress they are likely to be under at the time, the easiest target to hit. Two to three rounds aimed at the torso from a 9mm machine pistol, 5.56mm or 7.62mm assault rifle will invariably prove fatal unless there is some immediate, and pretty heroic and intensive medical care. The whole surgical headshot from several hundred metres out is very Hollywood, and in reality a highly unlikely scenario. So, the net effect of their training is likely to be fatal even if that isn't the specific stated policy at the outset. |
