Unless the tax differential is removed ultimately there will continue to be a slow squeeze on independent local businesses so you will get to a situation in which the local High Street contributes no corporation tax one way or another. Locally owned businesses employ more local people, use more local suppliers are more active in the local community and are more inclined to back improvements in the area which offer a broader benefit. The combined benefits of all this massively outweigh any loss of corporation tax which might occur if they paid the same rates as their larger competitors. |
