There are a number of questions:- a)most important - what were the mother's wishes? Did she say she wanted to be buried next to her husband or did she want a celebration of her life with the song of her choice b) How sad that this "celebration" should split the family in two. There must be other relations and friends to whom this is heartbreaking c)If the son is so entenched in the wish to observe shlosim and mourn for a year, he can. He does not need a Jewish funeral to allow him to do that. d) The mother is lying in a morgue at West Middlesex Hospital. Who is sitting shiva with her? Is the son? No one is going to come out of this well. Neither the daughter who is grieving her mum, nor the son, who cannot give his mother a Jewish funeral. |
