| What is the spend per head? What allowance is made for the ageing population? What allowance is made for the extreme squeeze on local government and social care which is the handmaiden of the NHS? Since 2010 (in England) despite growth in demand for the reasons above: NHS beds down 12634 Trainee nurses down 5877 GPs down 6% Mental nurses down 4500 Medical school intake on a steady decline. Before this really started in 2011 our spend per head on health was already below all other developed countries except New Zealand. France spent 21% more than us, Germany 32% more and the US 150% more (yes, 2 and a half times as much) The chorus that the NHS is unsustainable is growing all the time. This is the opposite of the truth: it is the most efficient way of delivering healthcare yet devised.
