I wonder about this too.  As I posted above - what is the point in limiting their hours for the NHS only to find that they are spending all the hours that should be hours off working somewhere else? 

Why should they feel that they need to increase their salary? 

Isn't it already a lot more already than many other people earn? 

Is it just because they can earn more in the private sector? 

How much of the NHS' time and resources are being used for private practice?  I remember a whistle-blower locally being in trouble for complaining that an NHS doctor was not actually spending the time contracted to the NHS hospital. I also remember someone advertising on here private medical services using an NHS email address.

I don't think we are being told the whole story. Let's have a better discussion.
