From today's 'i' an article on the Lords defeat yesterday. "Eyewitnesses said Tory whips persuaded Andrew Lloyd Webber to fly in from New York to vote for the tax credit cut. One Tory peer told journalists it was the tightest three line whip the party has had in more than a decade. The composer, worth more than £600m, was created an honorary life peer in 1997 as Baron Lloyd-Webber of Sydmonton, Hampshire." Did it not occur to anyone that the air fare from new York let alone the personal wealth of ALW is somewhat at odds with voting to ensure someone would be £1300 a year worse off? Surreal doesn't even come close.................. Threats to flood the Lords with over a 100 of Dave's mates as life peers have been estimated to cost a cool £600m, perhaps ALW would like to cough up? |
