Please don't labour (no pun intended) under the impression Chiswick is the put upon part of the borough, I can assure you it certainly isn't. As for the Local Government Ombudsman - a chocolate teapot would be of more use. If none of these 'ombudsmen' have any teeth then save the taxpayers some dough and get rid of them, they are utterly useless. I speak from experience. I attended a public meeting in Isleworth this week over a proposed road closure which will put an estimated 2,500 extra cars a day on the already gridlocked Twickenham Rd. Only the people in the small road had been consulted - the West Middlesex Hospital which is on that road totally ignored and the rest of us pretty well told we can get stuffed. One councillor actually said "if we close this road then when the traffic on Twickenham Rd. is made worse we can force the council into doing something"! This half-wit clearly not understanding that councillors ARE the council, the whole thing was a complete farce. When tackled the Dear Leader who styed at the back of the hall throughout, just told one lady - the decision had been made so there was nothing that could be done. What bloody rubbish, councillors could if they wished, go back to the area forum where this decision was taken, ask the Chair to take this closure as an urgent item and also propose the closure be deferred until the area in entirety can be looked at and people's views sought. Of course that would mean having to admit you'd dropped a clanger and that would never do. In Isleworth many of us feel it is a constant battle trying to communicate with Hounslow, and councillors are in thrall to officers and cannot or will not make and take their own decisions, either from stupidity or ignorance, possibly both. So please don't think Chiswick is alone in being picked on, I can assure you that really isn't the case.
