I read somewhere that if every household in the UK had a standard solar array that this would only remove the need for one conventional power station. Before someone else points it out there are several months every year when Britain see little sunshine/daylight - so backup generation facilities would still be needed i.e. at least one spare conventional power station. The best way by a longshot to reduce energy consumption in the home is to improve insulation. Boring but true. Of course insulation in your roof and loft is unlikely to win you much local kudos as an eco warrior but you will see the difference in your utility bills. |
