| Brian, I'm not optimistic that a logical argument can change a belief that was formed without the use of logic but here goes. I was actively involved in a variety of youth sports for well over a decade. This very often entailed me going directly from work with a laptop. I could not have kept my laptop with me and there were never totally secure facilities to put it in. Therefore it was often left locked in my boot in badly lit car parks at the back of leisure centres and remote sports pitches. I must have done this over a hundred times over the years and my laptop was never stolen. Most importantly it was always completely turned off. As I have said previously the one time it was taken was when I brought it with me from the car when I could have left it inside. You may not own either a laptop or a car or indeed get out of the house much but you should be able to work out that there are lots of occasions when the rest of us may have to leave a laptop in a car for very good reasons including Jonathan. He has acted very public spiritedly in relating his experience here and giving people a warning of a potential threat to their property. This reflects well on him just as your disrespectful responses reflect badly on you. As a result of the discussion here, particularly the well-informed contributions of Julian Pavey anyone reading will have a better understanding of the issues and know to be careful about the state they leave their laptop in if it is left in the boot of their car. Hopefully in future people will not be discouraged from relating similar experiences out of a fear that they will be met with judgmental idiocy. |
