I agree with this responder to that article: Oh dear dansky3 et al. Acupuncture is just little needles stuck randomly into skin. It's no more or less effective than TENS or capsaicin rubbed in. It's a minor adjunct useful to some (usually susceptible individuals). I've been to China and they are building western hospitals and medical schools at a rate of knots. (Ps dansky3 they are unhealthy lot those Chinese, despite their long and venerable trading of made up hocus locus). I've got no problem with people choosing acupuncture or homeopathy or rekki. It means less gullible, whiny, self involved patients with benign self limiting conditions in my waiting room. I object to paying for it with my taxes. At best it's slightly better for a few conditions than placebo. Usually it just wastes patients time and money. Occasionally it delays real treatment and causes harm. |
