Yes we all prefer to pretend that it won't happen to us. For some strange reason people seem to think that they can't visit their friends when they move into a care home. I know for many this is a mobility problem which could be solved. Yet there is a crisis in the homecare situation which is why many have to move out of their homes. The piece I heard on the Jeremy Vine Show was really lovely. It was a family saying how much their mother had enjoyed being read to by a volunteer to the hospital. She could join in with the lines of Wordsworth's Daffodils which she had learnt at school. It was a bit of respite for the family who were spending so much time at her bedside. |
