Guy, to be frank, I don't think many people care about where arbitrary ward boundaries are. The impact of this building will predominantly be in Chiswick as most of the residential property within a smaller radius of the planned building is in W4 and it will be Chiswick's transport infrastructure, particularly Gunnersbury station, that will shoulder most of the burden. As a Brentford Councillor you may have a post bag full of concerned residents in the area wanting you to lobby against this building but I doubt it as there aren't really many of your voters who would be affected too negatively by this building. It is therefore not unreasonable to be suspicious of developers when they hold statutory consultation exercises in inconvenient places, during the school holidays at inconvenient times which I suspect would have got scant publicity but for the news coverage on this site. You and Hounslow Council may support the development as you see it as contributing to the economic development of the area and that is not an unreasonable position to take. However, you should avoid becoming an apologist for underhand tactics by the developer. We have seen this recently with Lend Lease's redevelopment of Empire House and it looks like a similar sort of strategy is being employed here. |
