Whilst the USA might still have a higher murder rate per capita than we do, the difference is not in reality as great as the official figures suggest. In America every unexplained death is classified as murder, as is each incidence of manslaughter,unlawful killing, justifiable homicide etc. where we classify these as separate crimes.Also if when a body is found it is added to that year's stats. whereas we count it when the murder is solved, as in the case of the infamous Harold Shipman. His murders, all 213 I think, were added to one year's count, not apportioned to the actual years he committed the murders. |
