Hi Sam - I'm surprised at your posting. I'd have thought common sense would dictate that stapling into a tree would probably not be a good thing.

But since you ask, a quick look bit of research provides - "There are two problems with puncturing a tree: first, the physical damage of staples being punched into the tree's tissues causes damage to its internal system of nutrient delivery between the leaves to the roots; second, the hole in the bark can cause damage from the outside, increasing the chance of some kind of pathogen getting inside and causing infection."

Now, to go back to your posting. The staples are never temporary and sometimes neither are the posters. I often see posters (and that includes posters from St Paul's) left up months after the particular event has ended.

Let's do some sums: 6 functions a year, 4 staples per poster = 24 staples per year, and that's just one institution. It won't be very long before the tree bark has been damaged and perhaps the tree dies.

We have lost so many trees on Thames Road and Strand-on-the-Green in the last few years.

Please would the Chiswick Riverside Councillors help us get them replaced? I can PM you with a list of the locations if that would help.
