We will probably find out this morning which way she has decided to jump. As things are changing so quickly I may be out of date already but the Transport job remains up for grabs. Let's assume the incumbent Michael Dugher was given a pass as part of the deal to make Andy Burnham Home Secretary and could keep his job if he wished. That there has been no announcement means that there is some smoke-filled room negotiation going on. Possibly Heathrow is the sticking point as a Corbyn cabinet is likely to reject the Davies Commission's recommendation and come out against the Third Runway due to the influence of John McDonnell. If Dugher doesn't take the job then Ruth Cadbury seems the obvious choice. She has far greater experience in senior positions than many already appointed to the Shadow Cabinet including the new leader. Seema Malhotra another local anti-3rd runway MP has been given a job and Ruth Cadbury knows she increases her chances of re-election significantly if she is representing a party which unequivocally wants to stop Heathrow expanding. She may even win the majority of votes in Chiswick! |
