With his history of being a rebel it makes me wonder whether he would be happier to not be in power - then he can milk the applause of his 'right on' supporters with ever more radical proposals without having to face the challenge of implementing them.

His greatest fear must be that Labour become so unpopular that his role as Leader of Her Majesty's Most Loyal Opposition is lost to, say, the SNP leaving him with no platform from which to deliver his crowd pleasing rhetoric.
