I have a dear friend who recently moved from Chiswick to live in a less hectic, quieter County. A few years ago she was diagnosed with Parkinson's and I've watched her body deteriorate, however has to be said that her mental attitude is positive and she's fighting this insidious disease plus taking a lot of medication. Her greatest fear is when she becomes physically incapable of looking after herself and has to rely on others to assist her with the most basic of human functions. Certain diseases take away all dignity. I can't speak for my friend but if that happened to me I think would want to go to sleep and not wake up if it reached the stage where I was incapable of anything. But I'm not 100% certain - it's a really tough decision because, like Pandora's Box, there's always hope. |
