http://brentfordandchiswicklhs.org.uk/local-history/war/commemorating-the-chiswick-v2/ With bomb blasts and attacking aircraft noise making a dreadful din in Chiswick and surrounds in early 1944 (I recall well!), sirens sounding to warn of imminent air raids etc... things seemed to get frightenly worse.. with V1 doddlebugs falling out of the sky... and climaxing on 8th September 1944 with the first V2 bomb in the UK landing in the middle of Staveley Road. There has been extensive coverage of this sad event on this website over the years..and much on the Internet too. Your day this day should pass without a thought for those Chiswick families badly affected. |
