It's not a question of inconvenience, we are used to that, and you'd have to be some sort of muppet to live near a major stadium and not know what you're going to get. However, local people and businesses in Twickers weren't any to happy to find out that benefit to them wouldn't be all that they imagined. The police and council first tried to compel pubs to stop people going in after ten o'clock, the RFU wanting them to spend their dough in their bars and not in the town pubs! They've backed off a bit after some complaints, but this tournament is being run solely for the RFU and sod everyone else. There was no need for any of this had the two councils, Hounslow & Richmond, got off their backsides and started planning a while ago and working WITH TfL, police, local businesses, residents in conjunction with the RFU as a partnership, instead they've tried it on and got exactly what they want, I don't blame them, I do though, wonder what sort of representatives we've got who would let a sports event come before their residents. |
