Migrants head for countries where they have the best chance of achieving asylum and protection status. They can then apply for EU passports a process which in the UK involves taking a test called 'Life in the UK'. They then have free movement throughout the EU. For some with a good grasp of English this can be a quick process for others not. The numbers speak for themselves when it comes to the question over whether the UK is taking its fair share of refugees and specifically Syrian refugees. In 2014 , 68,300 Syrian refugees were granted protection status, Germany accepted 25,700, Sweden 16,800, UK 1,455. So far in 2015 estimates put the total number of refugees entering the EU at over 850,000 which is the largest movement of people in Europe since WW2. Again Germany and Sweden appear to be taking a disproportionate number of refugees against the UK and other EU countries relative to their existing population densities.
