My Tibetan Terrier used to shake with fear when we passed one of these that the had been to, on our walks. I am sure there are some good ones but he hated the experience.    My current dogs are semi longhaired, if they need trimming I do it myself.  If they don't look like a a Crufts dog, to me it is no big deal.  I trim the lugs out of their coats and leave it at that.  To me they don't smell although to them I am sure I stink to high heavens!   Nail clipping is not necessary for dogs if you walk them enough including on pavements.
