Janine, I've been seeing private doctors/consultants for years. If you know which consultant you wish to see, ring their secretary and make an appointment. No need for a referral from your gp (my gp charges £25 for a private referral letter) it's cheaper to pick up the phone.Unfortunately most private doctors have their surgeries/rooms in Harley street, or the London Clinic, so on top of the cost of your appointment, add £50 cab fare as you can't park anywhere close by.If you don't know which consultant you want to see, look online to find the name of an consultant that specialises in what you are looking for, and read up on what reviews say about their work.It can get very expensive, so if you are funding this treatment yourself, make sure you are aware of the costs for each t.reatment.Some of them are frightening.2 weeks ago, I had something called an iluvian implant in my left eye.It was about half the size of a grain of rice, and took about 15-20 minutes to implant into my eye.The cost of the implant, consultants fees, hospital charges for use of their theatre for 15 minutes, 3 nursing staff, and 2 cups of tea came to a few pennies short of £18000, so make sure you know what the costs involved are. (An MRI scan will cost you £800-£1000) |
