As a matter of principle I think that it is important that elected members both can and do challenge and occasionally reject the decisions/opinions of officers. I have challenged officer decisions (not in Hounslow) as a member of the public and won on appeal. There are occasions when appeals against officer decisions do succeed so officers do not have a 100% record. That being said I have great respect for the officers that I have worked with. Having read the Inspectors report my personal view is that some of her conclusions are rather subjective. This was in my opinion a complex case that was not "open and shut". There are many more black and cases where members would have to be barking mad to disagree with officers ...... I was not a member of the Planning Committee that made this decision. |
