This contrast between local family owned stores and the big chains reminds me of one of my favourite scenes from the "Sopranos". A local cafe has changed hands and Patsy Paresi and Paulie Walnuts are sent to "shake down" the new owner and remind him of the extra costs of doing business in their locality. "Hey son get me the manager" fetches manager "I'm the manager how can I help you ?" - "Yeah you pay us $500 a week and your windows don't get broken. O.K? " "Well I'm sorry but I'll first have to refer that extra expenditure to head office for approval. You see we're part of a 200 strong chain" Patsy and Paulie leave the shop in a state of total confusion. "That's typical of what's wrong with this country today.
