From experience when BT our firm off in error for three days including our internet connection I would just let this pass. Despite them being very clearly at fault and the onus was on us to document our losses and prove they were directly related to BT's action and unavoidable. You can't simply tot up the number of man hours lost and bill them at an appropriate hourly rate.

We weren't really looking for full compensation, just an acknowledgment of fault and some money back by way of apology. In the event BT stonewalled us and the legal advice received that it wasn't pursuing because it wasn't their policy to pay out in cases like this and they would fight it knowing our chances of winning were less than even.

A large construction company will probably have a similar policy so, sadly, I'd be surprised if you get anything out of them. Would be delighted to be proved wrong.
