Most sensible suggestion in the 'i' today is: "to have a joint processing centre in Calais to sort the genuine asylum seekers from the economic migrants. Britain and France then take half each of the genuine ones and deport the others. It might deter bogus asylum seekers. This probably won't happen, because Tory backbenchers wouldn't buy it. But sometimes a leader has to show leadership as well as 'grip'. The time has come for Britain to opt in" |
