He really deserves recognition for championing popular music at the Proms without compromising on quality.  Bear in mind that Henry Wood's original idea was to bring "good" music to the "masses". Also could we have a discussion about Cole Porter v Hoagy Carmichael who wrote IMHO the two best ever songs not written by Irving Berlin.
