the usual internet frothing and childish petitions seem to overlook a couple of relevant fact about neonics:

1. As another poster has pointed out, the use of Neonics on farms doesn't always correlate to bee hive loss
2. Global use of Neonics has grown over the last 20 years but the number of bee hives has also grown
3. In countries where neonics are still widely used (canada and australia ton name but two), beehive numbers are still high and increasing
4. In the study where neonics were shown to result in bee decline, the bees were fed with massively high levels to neonics - far more than would ever be seen in modern farming practices.

What everyone seems to have overlooked in the rush to trump science with their armchair expertise is that the ban is having a very real impact on the ability of British farmers to continue producing food. Some crop yields are down as much a 15% due to pest invasion which will obviously cause a knock on effect on food prices.

The consistency of the "anti" neonic science is similar to that around mobile phone mast radiation which at the time everyone was convinced was causing cancers. That's not to say neonics are safe, but a conclusive link hasn't been found (yet) and there really does need to be an explanation about why some farms can use them and yet continue to see bee numbers rising.
