Alex it's a good idea but the point I was trying to make is that the park is already very well maintained and used with a huge quantity of exercise machines, tennis courts always in use, grass mown frequently, wild meadows sown and bushes trimmed regularly, and new trees planted (although they always seem to die very quickly). The 'extras' such as brand new benches when the old ones were absolutely fine, brand new and expensive plants when the old bushes were pretty and gave off a lovely fragrance in the summer, and several other cosmetic changes were only done to win this award and were completely unnecessary. I am all for sensible maintenance but why this extra level of expenditure over and above what is necessary, just to win an award that I cannot see benefits the community? |
