| Again, I hope you are right Rima but my reading of the media over the last few days doesn't lead me to be that optimistic. I keep all the articles I can find to do with the third runway, but haven't seen any highlighting ridiculous claims and suggestions from Heathrow - if you can point to any links or quote them I will add it to my little collection of ammunition for the next time I am quoted in the National press on the topic - as you know I was quoted in the Guardian recently - and it is also useful for social media. And I think if the government wants something enough it will totally ignore it - look at foxhunting, the go ahead to build a beagle breeding farm so they can be sent abroad for experimentation and vivisection, their desire to curtail the freedom of information act and many other things that they know are deeply unpopular. If there's money involved they go with it, calculating they are early enough in this parliament to be able to give a few sweeteners later on when we have forgotten all this. They are wrong, people have long memories. I don't think the Estuary airport will ever go ahead, it doesn't suit those who want to expand Heathrow and Gatwick who are very influential and have deep pockets. |
