For heaven's sake why aren't they working day & night to get this fixed? For the last two days I have walked past it in the morning on my way to the tube - nobody to be seen. And again on my way home from work - nobody to be seen. If this was Germany or many other countries and an important road was closed for something like this, they would work under floodlights to get it fixed, and the road open, as fast as possible. Why can't we do this? And it cannot be because they don't want to disturb local residents. We know our local council doesn't care about local residents. So why is it all taking so long? Is it really because it costs more to pay workers before 8am and after 5pm? That's my guess. In other European countries, the utility companies have to rent the road space they are digging up, by the hour. And the rent is set very high to force the companies to finish their work as fast as possible. You would simply never see an abandoned hole in a major road for hours every day, like we have here. Useless shower. |
