For which we have to thank the sheer dumb luck of having a feuding Chancellor & PM at the time. Blair wanted to ergo Brown blocked it, the very definition of a narrow escape.

Whilst I am of the belief that we are better off within than without, I do also firmly believe that as no-one in the country under the age of 58 has had a say in membership, and that the concept of the EU has changed radically since we joined, then a reappraisal followed by a referendum is the equitable thing to do. Furthermore with Greece still teetering on the brink of an exit, I think this only strengthens Cameron's hand.
