Further information from the LBHF site: "The bridge had to be closed unexpectedly late Friday afternoon (10 July) after it was found the vibrations from the incessant vehicle traffic had shaken loose a hanger fixing nut. The traffic closure is a safety precaution while we perform an emergency investigation to see if there is any damage to the bridge, however we hope to have the nut back in place and the bridge reopened by Friday [17 July]." The closure affects the southbound side. "Temporary traffic lights were put in place to control traffic flows over the bridge in both directions, but on Monday afternoon southbound traffic was diverted via Chiswick at the request of TfL, to allow them to better manage the overall road network." It's not clear whether alternate two-way traffic will resume after tonight's rush hour. It'll prepare us for next year when the bridge closes "from Summer 2016" for major refurbishment. |
