"Dr. Brian May was simply brilliant on Newsnight..." Eh?? Did he do two interviews then? I just watched it and Brian May made a complete arse of himself. He came out with all the usual emotional stuff (and I quote): “They do it for fun, there is no justification for fox hunting”. “They just like it, they like to cause pain”. “It’s horrible and cruel, it’s all about the enjoyment of the kill”. Blah blah blah. May then claimed that foxes "cause no damage at all", and in fact most farmers agree that more damage is caused by hunts which trespass on their land. Oh, and then he said that hunts also cause other problems such as terrorising small children (yes, he said that). So – exactly as James O’Brien concluded yesterday, the main objection is that the people who go fox hunting “enjoy” it, and this is what is so “disgusting and objectionable”. When the very calm and polite Jim Barrington from the Countryside Alliance tried to get May to answer some logical questions about his position, May refused to answer and just became all emotional and abusive. He said: "It’s all a pretense, it’s all boll**cks”. He just kept shaking his head, saying “It’s all rubbish, it’s a disgrace”. When Barrington tried again to get May to answer a question, May just sat back and said “You're all just a bunch of lying Ba**tards”. Hmmm. Claire thinks that's "simply brilliant"? Having watched it, May came across as a petulant, rude, ill informed boor. The interviewer even had to issue an apology at the end to anyone who might have been offended at his bad language and abusive stance. |
