Whatever Labour (or anyone else say) the original ban was all about class war and "payback" for the miners strike, than anything to do with animal welfare. The act was a massive fudge, with loopholes big enough to drive a coach and four through. I lived in the country before I moved to London, and now I'm back in the country with my house bordering on farmland. Foxes are unquestionably a pest to those with livestock, and a pest that needs to be controlled. Now, are they best controlled by charging across the countryside on horseback? I would say not, but the fact remains that they will be killed/culled/controlled realistically all that is being debated is the method. |
