I've been told the best thing to do if a bird craps on your car is not to ask her out again!
That's the joke out of the way!  The best protection is firstly a good polish, but secondly and more important, a good sealant.  Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection is about the best.  Its a liquid which dries to a haze then you buff it off. It forms a barrier, sealing the polish in and dirt out. Effectively it makes anything much harder to stick as the surface is slippery.  It also gives the car a high gloss shine which looks good.  Its still important to wash any bird poo as soon as you can though!
