I've been contributing to this forum for over a decade. I've found it an invaluable source of information and entertainment during that time. I've made some good friends through the forum. The people who contribute are a representative cross section of the people who live in the area, generally but not universally intelligent and well-informed. There have been a number of people who have chosen to comment on this thread saying they don't contribute because they don't think the forum is good enough for them. They claim that most of the threads are pointless bickering. You only have to look through the pages of recent posts to see this is completely false. The overwhelming majority threads are constructive, interesting informative with contributions from people who are providing useful information or making well-argued points. A small proportion of thread descend into juvenile bickering but personally I find these royally entertaining and will quite happily spend a few idle moments perusing them. They may be a guilty pleasure but they are a pleasure none the less particularly when bobby makes an intervention. What I do find galling is the people who come on here not to make any positive or engaging contribution but rather just to tell us that they are too superior to participate. The flawed reasoning they demonstrate in their dismissal of this community is a pretty good indication that their more active participation would not be an asset. This is a terrific, diverse community. If you choose not to be a part of it that is your prerogative but why make your sole contribution a comment on your low opinion of the rest of us? |
