Not about scoring points Loraine. I spoke with both of my Muslim neighbours 'Ibbi' and Imran and asked what I should say. Both are correct but 'Mubarak' is more appropriate for the first day.

Ibbi's wife spent days preparing vegetables and par-boiling and freezing them and preparing chicken with two huge fans going in their kitchen. I'm afraid I could not resist the temptation to drink at least some squash or tea while preparing food her faith and willpower are amazing.

The reward and the results of her efforts I will taste later. If it's anything like last year it will be amazing, she will do this from a communal table after we each eat a date as it would be haram to do this any other way.
