Will, I have to say that I'm a bit hurt that you have adopted my idea without giving any credit for the suggestion. With most newly built properties in the Chiswick area not qualifying for residents' permits there are a lot of people trying to work out how to park their car. If you are entitled to a permit £82.50 might seem like a lot but if you are not then £800 is actually a bargain. By designating religions as businesses then it does give more people scope to apply for them. If you moved into an area you could now go to the local Vihara or Church offering to volunteer in return for a business permit to park your car. If you argue that religions should be treated no differently from any other voluntary association then any group with articles of association could class themselves as a business and apply for a permit. This could be great news for voluntary groups who would get lots of extra support in return for signing people's applications for permits. You could even set up your own organisation to apply for one. I seem to have underestimated your brilliance in this regard because in one stroke you have made the lives of motorists in the area much easier, you have thought of a way to boost membership of local religions and encourage community activity. Plus there will be a huge revenue boost to the Council due to all the new permits issued. |
