"Perhaps we need a weekly soup kitchen and this would show we do not only care about suffering animals." There ARE actually DAILY soup kitchens. Hanwell Homeless Concern provides hot meals fours days each week, the Ealing Soup Kitchen is open at the weekends. Both facilities are frequented by homeless people from across west London The problem is that they provide food not money for alcohol or narcotics which is why, according to Chaz and Terry two rough sleepers (by choice) who I have got to know over the years, they go and have a meal and then "off to tap up some mugs". Chaz, to whom I was talking only at lunchtime today when he cadged (yet another) cigarette is getting s 'bit old for all this bollocks' and will be moving into a shelter soon. So, there is no shortage of places to get something to eat as outreach workers will know and money for food is one of the last things that the beggars will want. |
