Adam The houses on one side of this particular road have a normal type of foundation. On the other side of the road they all have concrete bases. When one of the end of terrace houses (which has what I call a normal foundation) suffered sever subsidence I asked the person who was in charge of the under pining, “What caused the house to slip”. In there opinion it was because of the gravel underneath the house. He also came out with a lot of technical jargon about why the other houses were built on a concrete raft, but it may have been a possibility that the gravel became a problem while they were building them, so a concrete base was put down first. Now I know absolutely nothing about construction, but as a layman’s point of view, surely breaking through the concrete base, if not carried out correctly, could cause a lot of damage to neighbouring properties |
