I have seen several of these boots camps on the commons and personal trainers in parks damaging trees and jumping up and down on the becnhes. As to the latter, apart from the wear and tear, they are intended for siiting on and I am sure that no one wants to sit on the dirt left by feet. Commercial dog walkers are (rightly) restricted as to the number of dogs that they may walk at any one time and also pay an annual licence in some boroughs. They are also subject to fines as are all owners (again rightly) for fouling and may be charged under legislation if they cause a nuisance to other park users. There are many areas that are marked as off lmits for dogs. No similar restrictions apply to commercial fitness training which can often occupy quite a bit of space. Some people participating in the training (notably in Chiswick House grounds and on Turnham Green) take their dogs and allow them to run freely unattended while they workout. At a time when we are seeing huge cuts in public services and increasing commercial use of parks, it does not seem fair or just that a profit-making venture, be it dog walking or fitness training should use the parks and open spaces without paying a fee towards their upkeep and all users should certainly be fined if they damage infrastructure or use it inappropriately. |
