I really don't think that the boot camps are a problem and welcome the sight of community activity which, in reality is only for a short period. Last year I did discuss using the trees with the trainer on Stamford Brook Common and it was accepted that they would have to find some other way for that particular exercise. It was a common sense discussion - no argument or animosity. On the other hand, some months ago Hounslow slipped in a little clause allowing them to use any public open space for 'educational' purposes and as a result Chiswick Back Common has been taken over with marked pitches which now account for half of the grassed area. The Council is being paid for the use this of these pitches but are not maintaining the ground or grass as is needed to keep the area in a good condition. What was a beautiful well grassed amenity for all is frequently poached up in wet weather or barren in dry. This is very much to the detriment of those using this space and pushing out the locals. There is no provision for rubbish bins on the south side so the remaining free space is often rubbish strewn - the piggies in this park are almost always the young who gather in large groups after school. Hooray, summer holidays just around the corner and we can, once again be free to use the whole of the Common. |
