Sympathy to a degree if I'm entirely honest - of course I wouldn't like it myself BUT to some extent this sort of things comes with the territory of a typical town centre/high street in the evenings. And groups of 10-30 teenagers congregating on the pavement isn't actually a million miles away from a similar number of diners who sit at outdoor forecourt tables on the High Street, all engaging in conversation etc, tables being served, plates collected etc. I very much doubt in this day and age any establishment could lawfully refuse to serve a customer on the basis that the customer and their mates were noisy on the pavement, unless the customer was being abusive, threatening etc. So yes I can understand that it isn't pleasant and I do sympathise because I recognise that it would annoy me, but I do feel this type of thing comes with the territory of living above/adjacent to a high street. I also think the cacophony of noise generated by forecourt tables to restaurants would also annoy me if I lived in the same location, so I do think that Subway are being singled out to some extent. To me, if residents want an active high street in the evenings they have to accept establishments like Subway (and their customers) in the same way they are so willing to accept the likes of Bills, Pizza Express, High Road House etc. |
